The jackpot, the third-largest in Mega Millions history, soared after no one won the big prize in Tuesday night's drawing.

The winning numbers were 20-22-39-54-60 and a Mega Ball of 18.

Four tickets matched all five white balls to earn the second prize, and 37 matched four white balls and the Mega Ball for a third-place prize.

Might just put a couple of bucks on this one.

I'd be more inclined to buy a ticket that actually gave me a chance at winning, even if for a much smaller amount.

That's because dummies like me spend at least $10 a pop to try our luck, or un-luck.

So the state sponsored gambling racket is drawing in the suckers.

The American dream used to be a father working a single job to own a house, raise the kids and keep the wife happy. Now it is two tired people in over their heads on an upside down mortgage, sending their kids off to the "daycare" center to be raised by strangers and dreaming about winning the lottery.

    Very sad development.

I'd love to win this - but my backup plan is to wait until someone is running for office or about to be appointed to a high court in the public eye, and then accuse them of sexually assaulting me 30-40 years ago with no recollection of any of the details except the person's name and how horrified it made me.

Way back when the lotto first hit CA, we only had scratchers. After refusing for the longest time to get sucked into that mess, I finally broke down and bought a $1 ticket. I won $2 on it.
A little voice in my head then told me to not buy any more tickets and place ads in magazines all across the country telling people that I had doubled my money playing lotto and if they sent me $10, I would tell them my secret.
Then the much bigger voice in my head slapped the little voice upside the head and reminded me that's not how we get successful in America. We do it by the sweat of our brow and not by defrauding others.
