Ironic. In 2001, UK Chancellor Gordon Brown ignored the problem diesels cause with particulates and nitrogen oxides in order to serve the government's obsession with carbon reduction. Tax incentives were provided to encourage switching from petrol to diesel powered cars, resulting in 12 million diesel cars in the UK vs the 3 million in 2001, and a serious pollution problem. Now, vehicle owners who took the bait and switched to diesel are treated as environmental pariahs. Thank you, politicians, for yet another short-sighted crusade.
