So, er, he hasn't been in office since 2011.
Good luck Mr. Djou... maybe this strategy will work out for you.

I fully understand why he's leaving the Republican Party because of Trump and spineless GOP leaders, but I'm tired of hearing how the Republican Party is the party of Lincoln. The GOP and Dems have reversed roles since the Civil War. Lincoln used the federal government to end the right of states to continue slavery. While it's hard to determine what the GOP stands for these days, I can't imagine it standing behind a strong federal government imposing its will over states, especially over racial issues.

    I totally agree with Djou. I am a recently former moderate Republican who understands the Party has been hijacked by the brainless. arrogant Trump and the extreme right wing wackos. The disgusting thing is the other Republican leaders have no spine and continue to allow this maniac to embarrass our Country. They do nothing. What they can't seem to understand is they are digging their graves politically speaking. They will be ousted in 2018 and the right wingers will be shut down. It is a very sad state of affairs. Mueller is getting close and the first step is ousting this clown from office and send his and his idiotic crew out of here. The Republican Party of today = Cowards.;

The White House didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
Give them time. Trump will tweet his usual ridiculous personal attack any minute now.

I believe there are many other Republicans that share the same opinion as this man, but are not certain that the truth will serve them well. In other words, many are appalled by the words and actions of this president but lack the courage to step up and do the right thing.

  • NuffAlready

Then it's a tragedy that he's leaving.....THESE are the people this country needs in government! What happened to politicians with ethics, morality, and courage? As he said, the current GOPers are cowardly in their failure to address this monster.

I can't applaud him for quitting the GOP when now more than ever we need GOP members to stand up to Trump not just quit so that the member body of the GOP becomes nothing but Turmpets.

  • ItsClassified

Pretty lame excuse for a 1/2 term Congressman. Based on his election record it looks like his constituents didn't want him representing them. Hows the "homeless" problem in the Islands?

  • john

The born agains / Evangelicals blindly supporting the hipocritical porn again president. What ever happened to : if you see wrong & do nothing ?

  • Dr. Gurnicus Blanstonius

Take heed, Republicans. This is what integrity looks like. Don't be so quick to 'sell off' your honor and reason.

  • Guest

I applaud anyone who quits the GOP. Late thinkers, but better than no thinkers.

Bye Bye, another Swamp dweller moves on!!! Piece by Piece President Trump is getting it done. Bye Bye!!!

  • c moorehead

I like Charles - but Hawaii is a one party state. Charles is a 5x loser in Hawaii as a Republican, simple as that. Has nothing to do with Trump. Happy to say that to his face.

  • LyingComesSoNaturalToYou

I warned my Republican friends that Trump would make a mess of their moral compass. They laughed. They aren't laughing so much anymore.

  • USAF Retired

Good for him. Hopefully more will follow.

"He doesn't share the same values as the Republican Party of today"

Those values are... power at any cost.

  • j a

I agree. As a Republican I am appalled by not only the behavior of the orange one, but the silent agreement of the rest of the GOP. I'm not sure to what values chairwomen Shirlene Ostrov is referring - lying, cheating, demeaning people, acting like a bully, or totally making up "facts" to support sick twisted conspiracy theories, those values?

  • Star Patriot™

"He unsuccessfully ran for Congress in 2012 and 2014. He's not currently seeking public office." ... That just about sums it up.

  • mikevietvet68/69

another sensible american that is not blinded by the con-man in charge.

  • steve2014

Although I completely agree with this guy. You could probably run a story like this everyday. Another Republican realizes Trump is tanking the party. Not sure the utility of learning this is. Unless the shear volume of this is the news.

  • Lurker111

"He doesn't share the same values as the Republican Party of today"

The Republican Party of today has values?

  • ArghONaut

Curious that Shirlene Ostrov reinforces that Trumpism is what the GOP has evolved to, and is proud of it.

  • Summer Tyme

Trump is pure evil. Shame on all those who refuse to denounce him.

  • whitepine

He doesn't share the same values of the Republican Party? So lying, name calling, hush money, sexual abuse, and shady real estate deals are values you accept. What an imagine for the USA to exhibit to the world.

  • Adam Silber

While he is correct....The average Republican still wears their blinders of Don The Con
