Trump is still 'inclined' to release Democratic memo on Russia probe: Conway

#

Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway said President Donald Trump is still “inclined” to release a memo by Democrats on the House Intelligence Committee rebutting a Republican document that accused the FBI and Department of Justice of bias and improperly seeking surveillance of a former Trump campaign adviser.

“The president is inclined to declassify the memo," Conway told ABC News Chief Anchor George Stephanopoulos on “This Week” Sunday. But attorneys and experts who reviewed the memo think it reveals "sources and methods" that could harm national security. "So now it is going back to the Congress” for possible revisions to allow its release, she said.

The White House announced Friday that Trump would not at this time declassify the Democratic memo as he had the Republican document accusing the Justice Department of improperly seeking surveillance of former adviser Carter Page.

Rep. Adam Schiff, ranking member of the House Committee on Intelligence, delivers remarks to members of the news media following a meeting of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., Feb. 6, 2018.

Trump’s decision was slammed by the House Intelligence Committee's top Democrat, Rep. Adam Schiff of California, on Twitter: "After ignoring urging of FBI & DOJ not to release misleading [Republican] memo because it omits material facts, @POTUS now expresses concerns over sharing precisely those facts with public and seeks to send it back to the same Majority that produced the flawed ... memo to begin with."

Democrats "take seriously the concerns of the DOJ and FBI, which is why we both urged the Majority against this course in the first place and why we provided our document" to the intelligence agencies for vetting, Schiff said.

Conway said on "This Week" Sunday that the Democratic memo went through the same review by attorneys and the national security team as the Republican document.

White House Counsel Don McGahn said in a letter to the Intelligence Committee on Friday that the Democratic memo contained “classified and especially sensitive passages” that raised concerns from FBI Director Christopher Wray and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

McGahn invited the committee to revise the document to address national security concerns.

“The President encourages the Committee to undertake these efforts,” he said. “The Executive Branch stands ready to review any subsequent draft ... for declassification at the earliest opportunity.”

Trump on Twitter on Saturday accused Democrats of deliberately producing a memo that could not be released publicly.

The point here was that FBI, DOJ, CIA, Clinton, and Obama used a false story bought and paid for by the Clinton team in order to fraudulently obtain a FISA warrant which allowed them to spy on everyone around Carter Page, including Trump and many on his team or administration. They've been caught, and many will go down for this, whether or not ABC reports correctly on it.

If there are "classified" items in this document, why isn't the so-called "intelligence" offices raising a issues with this? Or, is it MSM is not reporting that? I just wish the whole thing were over with, but the lefts and the rights are going to continue done this drivel hoping to keep their jobs some how. I wish we could get rid of all of them except the 1st year Senators and the House Reps with less than 6 years.

The whole GOP premise with Hillary and her perfectly legal email server was that it could have a few emails that were classified confidential and that they could be seen by individuals without the proper Clearance. So now they have this Proven Wife beater in the White house who they knew had no Top Secret Clearance viewing Top Secret Classified Material Daily. A person that could easily be black mailed or extorted by hostile Countries like Russia because of his Criminal Wife Beating history.
And of Course they had no issue with that???? But Hillary should go to Jail?? LOL What Hypocrites.

  • Jack25

I am surprised her head doesn’t fall off from all this crazy spinning.

  • Eliezer Rice

Trump should release the memo even if it has secret info in it and even if it gets someone hurt because if he doesn't they will accuse him of hiding something.

  • Quix232

I'm sure he's going to release it!!! At about the same time he releases his taxes...

White House policy: If you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with Bullsh!t!

They flip flop more than a fish out of water.

  • Rodney Bayburn

Trump will never release it because it shows that fbi spying on Russian spies turned up ALL of the trump election team meeting constantly with Russian spies. Why is that? Trumpies think it was all to talk about adoptions. What a joke.

Too late ... Trump has already made a fool out of himself over this matter!

  • Allen Stimmel

What a crock. Anyone with a 3rd grade education knows that Schiff DELIBERATELY put classified info in this piece of toilet paper, knowing that Trump couldn't release it - then, running straight to the cameras to say that he is 'withholding the memo' and 'afraid of what's in it'. Trump wisely sent it to the FBI and DOJ to let THEM redact it. Release ALL the warrant applications and ALL the memos whether they contain classified info or not. Let us see what the previous administration was REALLY up to!

  • gypsy

No he won't. He will keep using this as a political game.

  • ruelph

Right, Trump is still 'inclined' to release Democratic memo, a memo which will prove that the Nunes memo is full of lies. Trump just can’t stop lying.

  • Rubbed Sage

This has completely backfired on Nunes and Trump. After massive overhype by the GOP, the Nunes memo was a complete dud, designed purely to give the Fox/ Rush crowd talking points to share in their echo chamber. By not releasing the Democrats' memo, Trump not only looks guiltier, he plays into the 'obstruction' narrative with the real world.

  • concernedvoter

Trump cannot stop the release of the Memo, the Senate and Congress already voted unanimously to release the Memo, Trump can only review it and point out what he feels needs to be considered for redaction. The Senate and Congress can decide to release it tomorrow. The FBI and DOJ have already reviewed it and approved its release.. unlike the GOP nonsense Trump Nunez Memo that Trump released with Zero issues having not even looked at it..

  • Kobrakai7272

Yes, we get it. The dossier wasn't classified so details could be released. The other 60 pages of intelligence that was the real basis for the warrant came from a wide variety of classified sources that can't be released. That does NOT mean the other intelligence doesn't exist.

  • jake

I suspect Trump will release the Dems memo about the same time he releases his tax returns, which we all know will be as soon as the IRS is finished with their audits.

  • Truthfully

Of course the Democrat's Memo was longer....
It had to UNDO all the Delusional Conspiracies of the republican Clubhouse!

Let the Truth be heard November 2018!

  • MauiOhana808

    DIVERSIONS!..............DIVERSIONS!............DIVERSIONS!............by the GOP and donnie!!!
    Bad form people!!!
    Make America Happy Again!!!
    Thank you Special Prosecutor Mueller!!!
    Aloha : D

  • Buster

I'm sure when the memo has been satisfactorily cleansed of the truth, President Nixon...er, um, Trump will release it.

  • Sir Real

Schiff's memo is "long," because it includes the material facts that Nunes' memo omitted.

  • Dan Farrar

I doubt Schiff will edit his memo. He will not only lose his best political weapon if he does, but people will be able to see for themselves the differences between the two memos and judge accordingly. Without a release, they can only guess how his memo stands up to Nunes'.

  • ohyes2011

    Yup, sure he is.

  • Primo Veritas

LOL Yeah. Right. Trump seems to forget those who are innocent have nothing to fear from the truth. He also ignores the fact that when he pulls stunts like this, far from exonerating himself, he just looks more guilty. If he ever does release the Democrat memo, I agree with other posters that it will be a rewritten, watered down version that makes him and the GOP look like saints. I certainly hope the Democrats don't fall for it.

  • Zaggy Zay

    LETS SEE THE MEMO

  • george

Doesn't matter, He looks MUCH more guilty not releasing it.

  • Truthful Opinion

Conway says Trump is still inclined to release the Democrats memo after the Republicans scrub it clean of all the Republican wrong doing.

  • ProvokeDiscussion

Inclined? Nah, I'd say he has declined rapidly since the election. SMH

  • Pro-Marx

It is easy to say he is inclined to release the memo, knowing full well he can blame the attorneys when he does not release the memo. Only his base is stupid enough to believe this charade.

  • george

If trump and his fellow evil groupies are to be corralled, we need not depend on the dems or the republicans. They have proven themselves to be totally inept ans feckless in their willingness to protect their own country.

Our rescue will be by nonpartisan women of the country righting this sinking ship in an effort to return to our moral and ethical greatness. There is NOTHING great about what trump has done to America.

  • Just_Me _Too

Republican leaders are acknowledging that the FBI disclosed the political origins of a private dossier the bureau cited in an application to surveil former Trump campaign adviser Carter Page, undermining a controversial GOP memo released Friday and fueling Democratic demands to declassify more information about the bureau’s actions.

  • Oldswimmer

Sure. Trump is inclined to release the memo. Right after he releases his taxes, meets with Mueller under oath, and has Mexico pay for the wall.

  • Pat Baxter

Trump is "inclined" to release the Democratic memo? Inclined? Trump needs to be sure..............................100% he'll release the Democratic memo.

  • No one you know

Even though I would like to see the Democratic memo, it doesn't really need to be released because the Republican memo clearly spoke for itself. It was a dud. A flop. All hype and no substance, or as they say in the West: "All hat and no cattle"

  • labman57

Trump will be inclined to release the counterpoint document ... after all evidence demonstrating criminal activity by a member of Team Trump has been redacted.
