Why do they want to rush things? I remember how they talked about how Obamacare was rammed down their throats. Reforming taxes is too important to rush through it in a week. Besides, I wouldn't trust trump or Republicans to do anything and especially without input from Democrats.

Shouldn't we figure out how much Harvey/Irma relief will cost first? We don't want to be caught under-funded when it's needed most.

That's because the previous "most fast" directives worked...

  • GarfieldRocks

No, don't throw something together and just push it through just to make Donald happy. Take your time and do it right if you're going to do it at all.

What we want is the prosecutors to move fast on the trump's collusion with Russia and impeach him already.

  • inonepeice

What's so sad is that while all this is happening with the 2 very strong storms the message from the White House we get is "Now is not the time to talk about climate change" when it is exactly the right time to talk about it and think about it in how we rebuild those areas destroyed. With over $200 billion in damages and an expensive recovery ahead of us and perhaps even more storms coming our way NOW is NOT the time to talk about tax reform.

  • All that Jazz

He wants an actual bill to sign (executive orders don't count) so badly that he'll sign anything put in front of him, whether it's full of republican or democratic ideas.

Plus, he's probably trying to make nice with the democrats in his latest not-subtle approach to derailing the Russia investigation

Oh good, another Republican trying to bankrupt the government.

This is a con job that some car salespeople use. "Here is your price, good today only. Act fast." If it's a good plan, it can handle a bit of time before passage. But we have yet to see a good plan come from Donnie.

  • Peter Carson

Wow. This is like trying to repeat the GOP healthcare approach, do a bad job but do it quickly. Taxes are important enough to spend some time getting them correct. I would like to hear from experts what the impacts of the tax plan would be to various segments of society. I would like to understand the effect of the tax plan with regards to the deficit. I would like to understand how likely it is to achieve the assumed 4% GDP growth and the significant increase in good paying jobs. The Reagan and Bush tax cuts did not achieve their goals, and I would like to think that we might have learned from those experiences.

  • RedSoxPatriotsCelticsBruinsFan

Trump cant pay for his hurricane assistance where does he think he is getting a tax cut from?

  • mellack

If Trump wants them to move fast, he should hand them a prepared plan. Of course he doesn't actually have one and expects them to come up with one overnight. That is the kind of leadership Trump shows.

will he be waiting "pen in hand" again?

I know that Trump feels like any failure on his part is simply like declaring bankruptcy, but the U S isn't supposed to try to make Trump feel better when he crashes.

  • mollydtt

I wonder if the tax plan is the same as his healthcare plan ---- "A very, very good healthcare plan at a tiny, tiny fraction of the cost of ACA".

    I won't hold my breath.

  • mollydtt

Trump never has any of those pesky "specifics". I think it has to do with his tiny attention span.

  • Misty Mac

"Trump has been pushing for changes to the tax code to cut corporate and individual rates and simplify the system, but has offered few specifics."

And he won't be offering any specifics. But if Congress doesn't get it done, he'll be pointing fingers at them! He's real good at that.

Trump wants lawmakers to 'move fast' on taxes

Easy to see how he went bankrupt so many times.

Maybe instead of hitting the 97% of us to get your rich cesspool billionaires even uglier richer try this American Middleclass Agenda, dummie Donnie:

Maybe instead of hitting social programs, these idiots should look at cutting the following "wealth" programs; Tax Breaks for CEO bonuses ($7 billion/year) (Bonuses are written off and not taxes as regular income) That $7 billion could single handedly fund the annual budget for the National Science Foundation. Tax cuts for luxury corporate jets ($300 million/year) (as "security costs") This is approximately 50 percent of the annual budget for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. Big oil subsidies ($37.5 billion/year) the Department of Housing and Urban Development allocated a total of $34.3 billion toward tenant-based rental assistance ($19 billion), project-based rental assistance ($8.7 billion), and general public housing programs ($6.6 billion) Pharmaceutical subsidies ($270 billion/year). The money saved could pay for the annual $270 billion in insurance costs from Obamacare that would help more Americans get access to healthcare. Capital gains tax breaks ($51 Billion/year) (If taxed as ordinary income) $51 billion per year in savings could fund two-thirds of the annual budget for food stamps. Handouts to Big Ag ($18 billion/year) via "Crop Insurance". This $18 billion in corporate welfare is more than NASA’s annual budget, which has hovered around the $17 billion mark since 2009. Welfare for Wall Street ($83 billion/year). If we were to force the big banks to borrow at the same interest rates as every other bank at a rate of $83 billion per year, that would be enough to double the current federal budgets for highway spending ($48.6 billion), Head Start ($10.1billion), the Environmental Protection Agency ($7.89 billion), nutrition assistance for women, infants, and children ($6.2 billion), the National Parks Service ($3 billion), and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation ($2.39 billion), with $5 billion left over. Export-Import bank subsidies ($112 billion). Mid Terms - Clean out the Trump Bank of Traitors!

  • B-K KnightRider

Of course he wants them to move fast. He is desperate for them to pass anything so he can sign it. Whether they pass anything worthwhile that actually accomplishes anything useful and fair is irrelevant. He just wants to hang his hat on something.

Commenting on the headline, the only thing that should move fast is the impeachment.

  • Prophet With Honor

  • boyscout

Trumppy needs to understand that this is not his company and congress does not work for him. And Congress needs to understand they do not work for him or themselves they work for us. And there is certainly no need to rush to screw the people and make themselves and corporations pay even less tax than they do. And while there are many smaller companies that do pay their fair share a large number of multinational corporations pay little to no taxes. You cannot solve the debt crisis by taking in less money. If you are trying to just rob our piggy banks then you should all be in jail

  • FlorMedDoc

Nonsense as usual from a President that has absolutely no idea what he is doing..He has no plan, no thought wanting anything that will put a "win" in his column...

The only thing that lawmakers move fast on is their own agenda, anything else is not important to them.

Keep rescuing the rich and spitting on those who elected you, Trump.

  • Bree Zee

Trump has no specifics because he doesn't know how it would work. He has no clue how the tax code works (he hires people who do) so telling them to fix it fast is just one more way he'll sell out his colleagues when they can't get it done in 24 hours.

That's because if his plan goes through he is set to save himself and his family millions. Just one more out of hundreds of self conflicts this guy has.

  • friar19

Trump's pattern of acting quickly and foolishly has been established in his business life. Take for example the suing of the NFL on behalf of the USFL. Despite nearly everyone saying it was a bad idea, he went ahead and did it anyway. Yes, he won, (one whole dollar) but he also killed what looked to be at the time a prospering league. He has no business acumen and, sadly, this is now not something that only effects him or his employees.

  • grampazero

Yesterday, the highlight of my day was driving by a billboard in Connecticut with his picture and the words "Your President, America's President" and giving him the finger. Sorry.

  • mollydtt

Trump doesn't care about the details--in fact, he won't be able to "sell" "his" tax reform bill to the country, because he won't know much about it.
Trump just wants a piece of legislation to sign, no matter how bizarre, because he is NOT a deal maker, and this would make it seem like he "sealed the deal", even though he won't know what it is as he is signing it.

  • Prophet With Honor

There should be a sign outside the Capitol that says

  • JuPMod

Yeah, yeah. We all heard that before. Trump says he will have a plan in days, when he really does not have any. He is letting Congress do all the work to plan something, and if it is not what he wants, he complains like a whining brat. Did he learn that one can not rush legislation? It certainly did not work for health care, so does Trump thinking rushing tax reform will work? This POTUS still have not learn to be patient.

  • cy dygitt

Hey demagogue tRump -- Just release your "beautiful and complete" tax returns you promised in January 2016.

  • mik8888

Everything from Trump is "do it fast, do it now" is, and has been painfully obvious from the first, that Trump has no clue as to the planning necessary to reform a tax code...several months, at least, then convincing Congress as a whole that they should vote yes on it...

  • cy dygitt

If any of these ignorant congress critters votes for any kind of tax cuts without seeing the tRump "beautiful and complete" tax returns, it only proves they are complicit in the death of our republic, and the creation of the tRump oligarchic plutocracy!
