Apple did not immediately respond to ABC News' request for comment today. However, the issue has been reported by frustrated users on social media.

Steven Troughton-Smith, an iOS developer, said on Twitter the issue appears to be caused by Safari’s search suggestions feature, with the browser crashing whenever some users try to search using the address bar.

If you're experiencing this issue, many have reported disabling search suggestions seems to remedy the issue. This can be done by going to settings, Safari and deactivating Safari suggestions. The same can be done on a Mac by going to Safari, preferences and search.

I use the address bar to search on Safari on iOS all the time. Seems to work fine. But I also have it set to use Google and not something else. I wonder if which search engine you use is the reason.
